Microsoft and Sony have been offering Playstation Now and Xbox Game Pass respectively, since 2019. However, it wasn't until the past year that the services started to gain any serious traction.
For those not familiar, game subscriptions are essentially Netflix for video games. Both services offer users access to 100+ games for a monthly subscription. Playstation Now is available for $9.99 while Game Pass is $14.99 or an extra $4.99 on top of your existing Xbox gold subscription. Xbox Game Pass Library and PlayStation Now Library.
After a quick look comparing the two services game libraries can you guess which subscription has nearly 10x the subscribers of the other? (Hint: It's the one with Minecraft, Halo and Gears)
While neither Sony or Microsoft makes their hardware sales information public, Microsoft reported 23 Million active Xbox Game Pass subscribers in April 2021. This is a massive increase from less than 10 million subscribers in March 2020.
